Jess Garrett's logo for voice acting: A sun with headphones and microphone. The Sunshine Voice
Hello! So glad you're here!

I'm a voice actress, science educator and writer.

People are surprised when I open my mouth, asking, “Is that  your real voice? It's so unique." They say it's sunny, cheerful, youthful, sweet, sincere, attention catching, "it just makes me happy," and "would you please read me bedtime stories about unicorns and rainbows forever?"

How might I light up your next project?

Voice Demos

Some of my WGBH promos:

A clip of the upcoming audiobook, "My First Red Sox Game: Catch of the Day!" by Christine Connelly

Jessica's delightful voiceover makes the magic of 7 year old Sarah’s epic day seem larger than life, and her spoken words are artful colorations of Sarah’s emotions, painted for all to feel; a picnic for the ears. - Christine Connelly - author

Audio Documentary Production

A visit to the scene of a loss leads narrator, Camilla Brinkman, to uncover a story about her grandfather, a Polish Jew wanted by Hitler, trailed by J. Edgar Hoover, and whose life intersected with FDR.

Misfiled archives, previously unknown research, and other finds help her assemble the puzzle pieces of secrets in this third-generation suicide investigation told against the backdrop of World War II.

Jess Garrett - The Sunshine Voice

After literally being discovered on the street by WGBH producers, I  studied extensively with the legendary Wren Ross. The first time I  stepped into a recording booth, I had the intense feeling of having  found my home.

In the recording studio I have been complimented for  being easy to work with, responsive to direction, and able to convey  rich emotions. I can handle many genres, but especially enjoy work for  children.

Clients include 'GBH, Mass Audubon, Mass Save, Service Titan,  Hasbro, various authors, and more. I have volunteered weekly for the  National Library Service for 8 years, reading audio books (mostly young  adult novels), magazines such as Yankee and Boston Magazine,  newsletters, and anything else they ask me to!

I performed on Portland Helmich’s excellent podcast, Stranglers, produced by Earwolf and Northern Light Productions. I’m on episode 5 at 36:36, but I highly recommend the whole series.

And I was a producer on the audio documentary,  "The Un/Recovering" a 3rd generation mystery of loss and finding after WWll.

“Jessica’s attention to detail and direction is palpable. She  captivates listeners with her dynamic range of characters and  expression, making her ideal for everything from the twenty second spot  to the two hour book on tape. “Voicing primarily kids’ spots for me, Jess is easy to direct and has a great, positive attitude toward it all. I wholeheartedly  recommend recording with Jess. Not only will you receive high-quality  results, but you will also leave with a smile on your face.” – Natalia Evdokimova, WGBH producer

“It was such a pleasure to work with Jessica to produce our nature center’s audio tour. Jessica helped write the script and tested it with our target audience before recording it in her delightful voice.  We were very happy with the production process, and we are thrilled with our audio tour!” – Lucy Gertz, Statewide Education Projects Manager for Massachusetts Audubon Society
