Listen to Arroe Collins of School Room Radio interview me about Oh Ick!
I edited the science textbooks “All Around Us” grades K-8, for Five Ponds Press, and wrote chapters for grades 4 and 5. Click here to see a preview.
Sharing my enthusiasm for science, engineering, and our world with children is one of my favorite parts of life. I taught science and math to grades 3-6 in Massachusetts Public Schools before becoming an instructor at MIT, teaching and designing K-12 STEM curriculum and teacher professional development workshops for field trips, schools and summer programs.
I now offer a 1 hour hands-on Science and Engineering lessons for grades K-6 in the Boston area.
I have performed interactive science shows at elementary and middle schools around the country: in California, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Arizona, Massachusetts, Texas and more. Teachers find that my “Icky-Squishy” science shows get kids jazzed up about science by exploring the oozy, slimy, booger-y side of life! I feel lucky to have co-authored Oh Ick! 114 Science Experiments Guaranteed to Gross You Out! and several other elementary science textbooks with the hilarious Joy Masoff, bestselling author of “Oh, Yuck!” and “Oh, Yikes!”
Below is a short video of me in action on “Science and U” on CUNY TV in New York. I’m at 4:05, 11:57 and 21:06. The first clip is a good example of the kind of “Ick-speriment” I do during shows. If it doesn’t play automatically, go to http://www.cuny.tv/show/scienceandu/PR2006331
